Pieces is a memoir that relies heavily on excerpts from the diary I kept during my tour with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. I carried the diary through jungle and over paddies, tucked into a large pocket of my jungle fatigues.

The second part of the book shifts focus to my return home to Brooklyn and the problems encountered re-adjusting to civilian life.

The final chapters describe my return to the People's Republic of Vietnam, twenty-one years later, on a quest to find a house around which my company fought an all day firefight during the Tet Offensive of 1968.
